Asian blepharoplasty (asian double eyelid surgery) is a cosmetic procedure which creates an upper eyelid crease in an eyelid which does not have this crease naturally (up to 50% of asians do not have a double crease). This can enhance the aesthetic appearance to the eyes.
A epicanthal fold is a distinctive anatomical feature of the asian population. The appearance of the medial epicanthus in some asians results in a curved look to the medial (closest to the nose) side of the eyelids where the upper and lower eyelids meet.
Surgery to the medial epicanthus can improve the appearance of this area to give a more aesthetically pleasing appearance to the eyes.
Specialist Asian Eyelid Surgery Experience
Dr Stanley Loo has postgraduate experience in Asian cosmetic surgery, including training in Taiwan, Japan, South Korea and Malaysia.
The consultation should consider eyelid anatomy, skin and tissue characteristics, eye health, expectations and the desired appearance. Dr Stanley Loo will assess you in his clinic at Auckland Plastic Surgery Group, Unit 6 / 31 Highbrook Drive, Highbrook, Auckland 2013 Ph (09) 220 2580, to discuss your requirements and suitability for this procedure prior to any surgery.
Good candidates for this procedure are people who have healthy facial tissue and muscles, realistic goals for the improvement of the upper and/or lower eyelids, healthy individuals who do not have a life threatening illness or medical condition that can impair healing, non smokers, and individuals who do not have a serious eye condition.
Mr Stanley Loo performs this surgery at Auckland Plastic Surgery Group, Unit 6 / 31 Highbrook Drive, Highbrook, Auckland 2013, Kakariki Hospital, Greenlane, Auckland and Ormiston Hospital, Botany Junction, Auckland . This procedure is typically performed under local anaesthetic or sedation as a daystay procedure (go home the same day).
An incision is made on the eyelid (upper and/or lower) within the natural creases on your eyelid to give you the best natural result. The excess tissues are then removed / repositioned to give you a more youthful and rested appearance.
Blepharoplasty procedures performed by Mr Loo typically take 60 – 90 mins for double eyelid surgery and 90 – 120 mins for double eyelid and medial epicanthoplasty surgery.

Most patients feel very little pain after this procedure however there may be some swelling and bruising in the eyelids. It is recommended that you keep your head in an upright position, avoid bending and apply an icepack on your eyelids after this procedure to decrease the swelling. The swelling and bruising can take a few weeks to settle but the majority of the swelling and bruising will settle within 10 – 14 days.
Mr Loo typically puts dissolving sutures in during this procedure so that there are no sutures to be removed, minimising post operative discomfort.
Regular follow up will be made with Mr Loo to ensure that you are healing well.
If you would like to discuss this further a consultation can be made with Mr Stanley Loo at Auckland Plastic Surgery Group, Unit 6 / 31 Highbrook Drive, Highbrook, Auckland 2013 Ph (09) 220 2580
