Face lift / Rhytidectomy

A facelift which is technically known as a rhytidectomy (“excision of wrinkles”) is a cosmetic procedure which aims to rejuvenate the face from the effects of aging.

As you age, the skin and soft tissues of your face lose their elasticity and gravity begins to show its unwelcome effects.

Deep lines below the lower eyelid (the tear trough) and between the nose and mouth (nasolabial fold) as well as sagging skin can create a tired, older appearance.

Who is suitable for a facelift?

If signs of aging in your face are causing you to look tired or sad, a face lift may be right for you. By correcting skin excess in the neck, a face lift can improve visible signs of aging in the face and neck, such as: Sagging in the mid-face Deep creases below the lower eyelids Deep creases along the nose extending to the corner of the mouth Facial fat that has fallen or is displaced, creating jowls Loose skin and excess fatty deposits under the chin and jaw (causing a “double chin” or “turkey gobbler”).

Prior to any surgery Mr Stanley Loo will fully assess you in a consultation at his rooms at East Care Medical Specialist Centre (260 Botany Rd, Howick, Auckland) or Ormiston Specialist Centre (125 Ormiston Rd, Flat Bush, Auckland) to determine your requirements and your suitability for this procedure. There are many different types of face lift procedures and Mr Stanley Loo will also explain the best procedure for you, answer all your questions and give an indication of what can be achieved.

Candidates for face lift surgery should be in good health. Active smokers are known to be at greater risk for healing problems than non-smokers or past smokers.

Procedure

There are a wide variety of face lift procedures and each procedure is highly individualized to your specific needs after a full assessment and discussion with Mr Stanley Loo in a consultation.

Face lift techniques range from simple, minimally invasive approaches completed through incisions in front of the ear, to the more extensive face and neck lift procedures.

Face left procedures are performed by Mr Stanlay Loo at Ormiston Hospital and generally require a general anaesthetic and an overnight stay at Ormiston Hospital

Post Operative

Patients generally stay 1 – 2 nights at Ormiston Hospital before going home to ensure that they are comfortable. They may need to wear a compression garment for a few weeks and will need to sleep with your head up(using 2 or more pillows) for up to 2 weeks. They should also avoid heavy exercise and bending down for a few weeks after the procedure.

Mr Stanley Loo will see you for your follow up appointments  in his clinic at East Care Medical Specialist Centre or Ormiston Specialist Centre to ensure that post operative healing is optimised.
