Some children and adults are unhappy with the shape of their ears because they stick out too much (prominent ears, bat ears) or are uneven (asymmetrical). Teasing can result in loss of self confidence. Surgical correction of prominent ears known as “otoplasty” or “pinning back of ears” can help restore self confidence.
Each person’s ears are unique and Mr Stanley Loo can advise you of the results to expect after a consultation at Auckland Plastic Surgery Group, Unit 6 / 31 Highbrook Drive, Highbrook, Auckland 2013 Ph (09) 220 2580.
During this consultation Mr Loo will assess your ears and explain the surgical procedure to you in detail and the results you are likely to achieve.
Otoplasty procedures performed by Mr Stanley Loo are generally performed as a day case at Auckland Plastic Surgery Group, Unit 6 / 31 Highbrook Drive, Highbrook, Auckland 2013, Kakariki Hospital, Greenlane, Auckland or Ormiston Hospital, Botany, Auckland under either a general anaesthetic or a local anaesthetic. The operation takes approximately one hour and involves making an incision on the back of the ear (so the scar is hidden) and reshaping the cartilage of the ear to improve the contour and set the ears back. All stitches are dissolvable so that there are no stitches to remove.
The ears have local anaesthetic placed during the procedure so there is very little pain post operatively. Most patients wake up from the procedure pain free.
Following surgery you will have a head bandage for a total of two weeks. The head bandage is removed in the clinic and the results are immediately obvious but the ears may be swollen or bruised initially. It may take some time for the final results to be apparent.
